Meeting Notes for Next Telecon

Agenda for Oct 8, 2025

quarknet.org

e-Labs

  • e-Labs issues tracking page (Google Doc)
  • Edit and Joel are debugging the test server i2u2-prod-24-test. Still a persistent database connection issue.

Cosmic

  • Cosmic Watches have been very popular at workshops. Several teachers have asked about purchasing CWs. Might it be possible to considering making, and selling CWs at cost? This could be a way to continue to promote CWs without taxing the budget and/or the logistics of centrally "checking out" sets of CWs.
    • We have specific interest from 1-2 teachers and will check with Mitch about the rules
    • If we do this, we'll try to do this in a way that is not a staff time-sink and does not deplete stocks from one school that has cash to spend.
  • Cosmic Ray e-Lab analyses have dropped to 100/month compared to a normal 3000/month before the loss of Uploading
  • e-Lab user (Terry Hart with DAQ5000s) has consulted with Edit and has a prototype standalone Python program to read raw data files in order to create a lifetime plot. This is good but we'll have to discuss the many of the hardware issues that have to be corrected to get an absolute time. We strongly prefer that we put effort into fixing the upload issues but mentors are considering desparate solutions.
  • The pyramid detector readout has had a synchronization problem for a few months while we wait to a stand to be completed in Mexico City. The synchronization has been solved using the detector in Chicago. The detector in Mexico City should be moving to installation at Chichen Itza soon.

CMS

  • CIMA issue continues. We are making Google sheets for masterclasses that take place this summer.
    • Plan to resolve before IPPOG at end of October by either placing old CIMA on CERN server or creating new CIMA
    • NOTE: Still working on this but focussing on the event content first (see below)
  • Using Google sheets:
    • Masterclass at CERN Oct 1
    • Masterclass at Oviedo Oct 20
    • others in the offing
  • Masterclass preparation
    • We have converged on the ratios of WZH events to use in the masterclass (from 13 TeV collisions on Run 2) and the events to use
    • There may be some lower-mass J/psi and Upsilon events to add (under discussion)
    • We have enough 4-lepton events to greatly simplify the structure of the datasets (i.e. we can use 100 datasets of 100 events each without breaking them up and distributing them into N25, N50, etc.)
  • Website migration: Several QN-related websites at CERN are hosted on WebDFS which is being phased out, they needed to be migrated to WebEOS. Deletion of old site begins 31 October. The following have been migrated (and will switch to web.cern.ch before then):
