Meeting Notes for Next Telecon
Agenda for Apr 8, 2026
quarknet.org
e-Labs
- e-Labs issues tracking page (Google Doc)
- Investigating differences between i2u2-prod-24 and i2u2-prod-24-test. Lots of differences in the live webapp directory possibly due to the build process.
- Group update function is broken. Joel has a fix but needs to go back to fixing other things before we can roll that out.
- Investigating whether port conflicts in Apache Tomcat AJP connections might be causing e-Labs problems on some VMs but not others. Sorting out issues with Tomcat logs.
Cosmic
CMS
CMS Open Data workshop:
- There will be a CMS Open Data workshop 28-30 July at ND
- Focus will be on pedagogy and how to use open data at the high-school and undergraduate level
- Some financial support from ND for participants and facilitators
- We will be ready to advertise this week
- The overlap with QN is obvious (and deliberate); we will need QN support in advertising the workshop and in organization
Report:
We are not quite 1/3 of the way through IMC 2026. So far, things are going well. There are no real complaints about the Google sheets and they seem to be working well. (Should we survey masterclass leaders to get a quantitative-ish readout of how they were for everyone, high point, low points?)
Masterclass Resources:
- The new masterclass iSpy files are done and are here: https://cernbox.cern.ch/s/tBzolVT5pZVUnUA
- The masterclass iSpy files are viewable in the event display here: https://ispy-masterclass.web.cern.ch/
- Test masterclass (with answers) done my me: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1SExqt-dInZRoH607Cz3NjGbpuEs4PBnk8karK0_lUA0/edit?usp=sharing
- GitHub repo: https://github.com/QuarkNet-HEP/cms-masterclass-sheets
- Template and test sheets: https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/1RkvEGKgLl55BYvnuImmu63plUM3H3bud?usp=sharin
- New iSpy and Google Sheets: Notes from McCauley, LHC fellows, Cecire are available.
Neutrino
- IMC report
- We currently have 33 registrations for FNAL-QN masterclasses: 7 ATLAS, 16 CMS, and 10 MINERvA, 3 NOvA. The schedule is at https://quarknet.org/mc-comm#vc .
- As of today, 2 MINERvA masterclasses remain, both on April 18.
Servers
- i2u2-wiki-24 redline CPU spikes seem to have been solved by blocking Facebook's crawler bots.
- CRC spring maintenance is probably May 15-17. Awaiting confirmation from CRC.
General - Archived to bottom
* DOIs will help people locate and cite objects in our GitHub repo. CERN's Zenodo can create these if we integrate it. Tom has a Zenodo
https://zenodo.org/communities/quarknet/records?q=&l=list&p=1&s=10&sort=newest set up.
* Structural issues exist in:
- CIMA & recent OS - Google sheets not an ideal solution due to limitations
- CR e-Lab & recent OS
- Java versions in HYPATIA, EQUIP, etc
- EQUIP on Raspberry Pi 64-bit (rxtx on the way out?)
- Drupal long-term (will need to replace in a few years)
- Not enough time to update content in masterclass web pages, e-Labs
- Vulnerability
It is not just us. How do we rethink our IT approach to deal with these within our resources?
